The Orchards Primary School, Bolton
Equity Solutions’ full architectural, environmental, engineering and healthcare consultancy Blue Sky Design Services provided pre and post-contract architectural services to Bardsley Construction for the development of Orchard’s Primary School in Bolton.
The Orchards provides for 404 children, including facilities for children with special educational needs.
The needs of people with severe learning disabilities have been managed thoroughly and sensitively with a clear focus on inclusion. The approach was one of ‘two schools of thought within one school building’. Inclusive design in this project was an ongoing process of creative problem solving, evaluating and adjusting the physical environment of school buildings and grounds.
Careful attention was paid to environmental issues and detailed analysis was made of summertime temperature, daylighting, and ventilation, to ensure that an optimum and comfortable learning environment was achieved.
