St. Stephen’s Primary School, Blackburn
This new school brings together the 490 pupils of the separate St Stephen’s Infants and Junior schools into one building. Blue Sky Design Services, Equity Solutions’ full architectural, environmental, engineering and healthcare consultancy, provided the architectural solutions on this £5.4m project.
The challenging sloping site was overcome by utilising a two-storey split level solution with level access available at both floors through use of distinctive bridge links from the upper floor to the upper level playing areas.
The street which previously separated the play area from the school was closed and pedestrianised to provide high quality and safe public realm at the school approach.
The design and phasing of the project successfully kept the existing schools operational during the construction of the project.
