North West Fire Stations PFI

The creation of a trio of Fire authorities to procure a PFI project enabled Mersyside, Lancashire and Cumbria to secure the funding for 16 new Community Fire Stations across the three authorities.

bluesky architects, part of the Equity Solutions group, won the long procurement for eight fire stations.

Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service
Patterdale: a very small replacement of the single bay rural station co located with the Mountain rescue facilities  – value £345,650.

Workington: due to changes in the demographics and fire risk the fire authority have identified a new site for the 4 bay community fire station – value £1,937,500.

Penrith: amalgamation of a new community fire station, HQ and emergency planning unit for Cumbria – value £3,658,000.

Carlisle West: following floods in Carlisle where the central fire station was  affected a strategic review highlighted the need to create two fire stations one to the west and the other to the east.  The Smaller of the two Carlisle West Community fire stations has one appliance bay - value £886,600.

Carlisle East: following floods in Carlisle where the central fire station was  affected a strategic review highlighted the need to create two fire stations one to the west and the other to the east.  The larger of the two, Carlisle East Community fire station has four appliance bays - value £1,937,500.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Services
Southport Community Fire Station: amalgamation of the fire service and the northwest ambulance service has created an integrated response  base for four fire appliance bays and two ambulance bays – value £2,352,500.

Bootle and Netherton Community Fire Station: the replacement of the existing two bay community fire station with inclusion of the  area fire safety and risk reduction teams -value £2,247,500.

Birkenhead Community Fire Station: due to changes in the demographics and fire risk there has been a need to reduce the existing facilities with a new thre bay community fire station – value £1,759,250.
