Heald Green Health Centre

Heald Green Health Centre is a ‘one stop’ facility providing GP and PCT clinical services.
The project had a high profile within the community of Heald Green, being bounded by the village green and the existing public library and the design had to respect the scale of the residential neighbourhood whilst creating a sense of civic presence.
In recognition of these sensitive criteria the Blue Sky Design Services team, part of the Equity Solutions Group and Community 1st Stockport, where Equity Solutions is the private sector LIFT partner, undertook local community consultation evenings. The main outcomes from these discussions were the enhancement of the public domain linking the library and health facilities and the addition of “green walls” to the end gables of the building.
The scale of the building is controlled by the stepped fins along the Finney Lane frontage, reflecting the rhythm of the residential properties around the scheme. The public realm links the parking, library and public footways and the main entrance with the waiting areas positively overlooking this open space.
Steel frame construction was used to provide a building that has long-term flexibility in terms of space division and overall use. A mixed palate of materials has been used to reduce the scale and impact of the building.
