Elliot Gardens, Wigan
Elliot Gardens provides 24 apartments and associated communal facilities for extra care housing at affordable rent designed specifically for people with dementia.
The scheme is designed on one level using the cluster principle to eliminate corridors and avoid confusion for residents. Each cluster contains a maximum of eight apartments and has its own communal lounge, dining area, assisted bathroom and fully equipped ‘training kitchen’. Each lounge has direct access to a secure external garden area.
Equity Solutions’ unique full architectural, environmental, engineering and healthcare service Blue Sky Design Services, worked with both the client “Adactus” and Wigan Social Services Department in formulating the brief for the project and the scheme meets the requirements for Lifetime Homes, achieved Secured By Design Certification and provides full wheelchair access throughout the development.
