Cornwall Food Production Unit, Redruth

The Cornwall Food Production Unit was handed over to RCHT in February 2008 and is an innovative, purpose built facility unique to Cornwall and transformed the way hospital meals are provided to patients across the county.
Built in an area of regeneration with economic, environmental and sustainable benefits at the forefront of its design, the new food production unit gives the NHS in Cornwall greater scope to further increase the range of locally sourced produce allowing the development of more links with smaller, local suppliers, including organic producers, and the ability to offer more seasonal produce on the hospital menus.
The project was awarded almost £2m of grant funding in 2006 under the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Objective 1 programme receiving part financing from the European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund of the European Union and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
This is the first LIFT project to be signed between Community 1st Cornwall, where Equity Solutions is the private sector partner and the Acute Trust. It demonstrates the breadth of activities LIFT can participate in and successfully deliver. LIFT is not just about GP and primary care services reprovision but about the overall regeneration and improvement of the county’s health and social care and support services infrastructure.
