Users of the current Jordanthorpe medical centre have had the opportunity to have their say on their preferred design option for a piece of sculpture which will act as the railings for the area next to the main entrance of the new primary care centre being constructed adjacent to the current medical centre. The construction of the £4.2m state of the art primary care facility is due to be completed by the end of September and will open its doors to the public by the end of October. This new development will expand the range of health care services available in Jordanthorpe and will bring health services closer to the local community. This new Primary Care development is being developed under the Local Improvement Finance Trust, or LIFT, initiative in Sheffield by the Sheffield LIFTco, Community 1st Sheffield Limited, in which Equity Solutions is the private sector partner. The sculpture design option chosen by the local community is called Pebbles in the Pond and was created by a local Yorkshire based sculptor. The sculpture has been sponsored by Community 1st Sheffield and its construction partner for the scheme, Carillion. David Johnson, Director of Community 1st Sheffield Ltd said: We hope that the local community in Jordanthorpe will be delighted with this addition to the primary care centre. The railing sculpture near the main entrance of the new centre will signal that this is a high quality new community facility. As well as the new primary care centre in Jordanthorpe, within the LIFT initiative, there are already two brand new developments now operational in Wincobank and Deepcar. Plans to develop other new primary care schemes around Sheffield are progressing and will support Sheffield Primary Care Trusts strategic review Achieving Balanced Health.
