We aim to maximise regeneration and community involvement in all our projects. To unlock these local opportunities we work with our supply chain partners to maximise employment and business opportunities for local people and companies.
We set targets for local employment and apprentice opportunities wherever possible and work with our supply chain to achieve these targets and monitor levels of local employment.
Notable successes include:
- Between 75% and 85% local labour achieved during the construction period of the Oldham Integrated Care Centre, Chadderton Wellbeing Centre and Royton Health and Wellbeing Centre (based on industry norm definition of local).
- A local employment charter formalised in our Oldham LIFT area, facilitated by J21 (Oldham and Rochdale Local Labour in Construction Initiative).
Craig McCall, Royton Health and Wellbeing Centre: “After being out of work for 5 months, I was really worried about finding a new job and contacted around 50 firms in my job search with no luck. J21 found me a job with Atlantic Scaffolding who are working on the Royton job and also funded my health and safety training.”
Mark Hartley, Royton Health and Wellbeing Centre: “I was out of work for 8 months and had trouble finding work until J21 helped me. It’s really good to be working so close to home and to work on a local project which would benefit the local community.”
